A unique calico colored doe, sent to us by Randy Carpenter, taken in late winter on Randy’s trail cam.  He sent us several pictures of this doe and a couple more eating from the same corn pile.  In several of the pictures this calico looks like she is carrying a young one.  Nature never stops amazing me with her beauty.  Because I feel like every Deer Hunter is some what of a nature lover, because I don’t know of one hunter that who has never just set in the stand and just observed to see what the deer are doing.  Awesome pics,  thanks Randy!

Just a few things to think about for the up coming seasons.  Dove season is upon us. I have been seeing a lot of birds everywhere I look.  And I have also noticed the price of bird shot has hit the roof.  I may pass on some Dove hunting this year.  The regulation books for North Carolina have not been published yet.  The local game warden told me sit hould be by October 1st.  Some last minute rule changes have occurred.  I am sure most of you have heard about the Crossbow rule,  Our good friends in Raleigh have voted to let us have a new toy this year.  What I understand is that crossbows are legal from opening day of bow season until the last day of gun season.  I am on the way to get one now.  Of course, if they opened up rock throwing season, I would have a sack of rocks.

Cleveland and Gaston Counties are in two different Game zones along with Lincoln County. I think they are in with Gaston, but don’t hold me to that.  Word is that Gaston and Lincoln’s Season has been extended until January 1st.  The Cleveland County Game zone, were still trying to decide on them. It just may be extended also.

I have heard rumors of some Black bear being spotted in western Gaston and Cleveland County.  Some of these sightings have been in residental areas.   Keep one thing in mind, these bears usually won’t bother humans unless they have cubs and they feel the cubs are being threatened.  Some of you may remember back a couple of years ago, a man at Lake Norman shot a black bear in his backyard because he was afraid of it. I heard The Department of Natural Resources (Game wardens), burnt him a new behind with an outstanding fine.   Like I said, a few things to think about. I could be totally wrong about all of this.
